Garoppolo started the series with a screen pass to Matt Breida for 11 yards. He went 43 yards on a seven plays to set up a short field goal for Robbie Gould. Garoppolo took over with 1:45 left before the end of the half. Game stats: 10-of-15, 145 yards, 1 touchdown Fifth series Garoppolo had to navigate the pocket a bit after right guard Daniel Brunskill got blown up, but the quarterback still delivered a strike to the reserve tight end, Dwelley just didn’t hang on. Dwelley then dropped a third-and-3 pass that hit him in the chest. He put nice touch on the throw for a short gain. Then he rolled left and showed good patience waiting for Juszczyk after the fullback stumbled. Then he rolled right and connected with Pettis for a gain of 12. He threw a strike down the field to Samuel for 21 yards on a third down.
The fourth series showed more steps forward for the 49ers’ signal caller. Game stats: 7-of-11, 107 yards, 1 touchdown Fourth series It wasn’t Joe Staley’s finest play, but Garoppolo took a hit without any problems, which is good news for San Francisco. After a Matt Breida run, Garoppolo dropped back but had defensive end Frank Clark all over him as he got to the top of his drop. His first throw to tight end Ross Dwelley missed a touch high, though the reserve tight end probably should’ve come down with the pass. Garoppolo’s third series was a short three-and-out. Game stats: 7-of-10, 107 yards, 1 touchdown Third series Those last two throws were some of the best Garoppolo has made since the start of last season.ĭrive stats: 4-of-4, 75 yards, 1 touchdown A shot down the right sideline to Richie James for 33 yards, then a 20-yard touchdown to Matt Breida over the top of a cornerback and in front of a safety. Then he put some nice touch on a throw down the right sideline to Dante Pettis for 16 yards. He hit Deebo Samuel on a slant for five yards. He kept his eyes down the field and made a couple throws down the field with accuracy. It’s clear Garoppolo is getting comfortable. Game stats: 3-for-6, 32 yards Second series His sixth attempt was batted down at the line on a fourth-and-1. Garoppolo connected with Kendrick Bourne for 18 yards, then hit Marquise Goodwin for nine and Kyle Juszczyk for five. He missed on two throws to Dante Pettis, but a defensive holding kept the drive going. Garoppolo’s first series didn’t get off to a great start. We’ll keep running notes on his snaps here. Jimmy Garoppolo will play most, if not all, of the first half Saturday night in Kansas City.
